Pack a Sleeping Bag for Better Health

By Tom Herrin

It doesn't matter just how hard people try, they tend to get bogged down in whatever life they live.  This may be due to trying to balance family, job, finances, and lots of other things.  It can all take a toll on health.  Creating some kind of a break from all of that is pretty important.  One of the easiest ways is to do something that they likely did as children.  Most people camped out at some time or another.  Even though it may have been in the backyard, it was probably fun, at least until the mosquitoes showed up.  Lucky for them, there are plenty of repellents available, and camping may provide some good things for health.

It May Help People Sleep

Lots of people have problems with sleep today.  Some of this is because of the many things they have to worry about, shift work, and an assortment of other things.  When people camp outdoors, they probably are subject to the sun and its schedule.  A study from the University of Colorado found that people who sleep outdoors tend to adjust themselves to the sun's schedule.  As they wake up when it rises and wind down as it sets, they thrive on this natural pattern.  Sleep is often much better.

It May Increase Vitamin D

Vitamin D is thought to be insufficient in many people today.  It is believed to help prevent some cancers, high blood pressure, and heart disease as well as a few other issues.  The sun is one of the best suppliers of this important vitamin.  When people spend time in the outdoors, they will increase their opportunities to be in the sunlight and take in more of this vitamin.  It may be good reason to camp and do so frequently.

It May Help Bring Families Closer

Our family has always loved camping.  Anytime we went, we had some great new adventures and learned something new.  Most of us find that we will walk more and be more observant.  We will also probably learn to become more dependent on each other as family members.  We always found that we were able to accomplish more as we chipped in and helped the cause.  If you haven't camped in while, it may be worth a try.  You and your family could be winners in family relations and improved health.
