Taking Carbs Out of a Diet Should Take Planning

By Tom Herrin

Many people are willing to go to great extremes to make what they feel are major changes in their diet.  There are plenty of diets on the market that call for all kinds of cutting when it comes to carbohydrates.  It seems to be the current theme.  It is true that many people take in far more carbs than they need without really giving thought to just what they are eating.  Reducing their intake of carbs would surely be a good thing, but people would be wise to educate themselves as to which carbs are harmful and which are beneficial.

Cut the Right Ones

Dividing carbs into healthy and unhealthy is not really difficult.  A good portion of those that are not so good can be found in some kind of packaged food that can be purchased ready-to-eat.  These treats are usually packed with sugar.  When the carbs come from sugar, people need to exercise caution to limit the amount they consume.  One recommendation is that women limit their consumption of these carbs from sugar to 100 calories per day and that men limit their intake to 150.

Some Carbs Are Necessary for Good Health

Whether people realize it or not, they have to have carbs to fuel the body. They are a must to help the muscles work.  If there is not a sufficient amount, the body will begin to use muscles to burn for energy.  No one has to have much of a picture painted in order to understand what that could mean.  Lean muscle would be lost and the body would suffer.  Eating things such as fruits, vegetables, and grains, just like their mother told them, will meet the needs for those good carbs.

Learn More and Plan Well

Most of us are concerned about our health.  A little education about nutrition can help us to make good decisions.  We will do well to avoid drastic dietary changes until we investigate.  With some good information, we will be able to make the best choices.  I feel good about what I am doing when I stay a little more informed.  Minimizing those unhealthy carbs is not so difficult.  We just need to develop a taste for those things that are healthy.  Making a written plan may be the easiest way.  It can take all of the guesswork out of it.
