Honesty Is Key for Worthwhile Chiropractic
By Brandi Goodman
We all have unhealthy habits we may be embarrassed about. You can't hesitate to share them with your chiropractor, though. There will be absolutely no judgment. Your doctor of chiropractic simply wants to know the truth about how much time you're sitting and whether you're slouching too often so he or she knows how best to help you. Honesty is key for worthwhile chiropractic care.
Tell Them Your Habits
You really do need to tell your chiropractor about any habits that may be affecting your back or causing the current discomfort you're feeling. The doctor of chiropractic can offer pointers on how to counteract those habits and make some healthier decisions that can help diminish your pain level and prevent discomfort in the future. Are you the couch potato type? Do you rarely exercise? Perhaps you wear high heels often. Maybe you're a stomach sleeper. All of these things can impact your spine and should be told to your chiropractor.
Disclose Your Medications
Some medications may affect how you're feeling. Let the chiropractor know about which ones you're currently taking -- or recently had to take -- and whether you think they may be impacting your pain levels. The chiropractor may be able to offer some insight on how to reduce the pain and side effects you're feeling and provide suggestions for how to make improvements in your health plan.
Inform Them of Any Accidents or Surgeries
If you were ever in an accident, had a surgery, or were involved in any other trauma, it's best to tell your chiropractor about it. All of these things may impact your body, even years later. You never know whether scar tissue is causing a problem or an underlying issue was caused by what you went through. The chiropractor can take a closer look and see which areas you mention could need an adjustment or something more.
Honesty is always the best policy in life, but it's especially important when it comes to getting chiropractic care. Your doctor of chiropractic won't be able to treat you efficiently and offer the correct form of adjustment if you aren't disclosing all of the details they need. A variety of factors can impact your health and your pain levels, so letting them know all you know can help them get to the root of the problem and ease your discomfort.
