Health Advice You Can't Ignore in Your 30s

By Genevieve Cunningham

When we're young, we rarely have to give any thought to our health. We eat what we want and never gain. We skip exercise and still maintain flexibility. We stay up as late as we want and rarely feel fatigue. Unfortunately, this really doesn't last. As we approach our 30s, we begin to notice little problems with our health. Maybe you've noticed exhaustion or bags under your eyes or skin blemishes. If you're approaching this age (or even if you've passed it!), it's time to take your health seriously. To help manage your good health for the rest of your life, take a look at these tips that you simply can't ignore.

Floss

You probably already do this, but are you consistent? Do you floss every single night without fail? Many don't realize the implications that come with lackluster dental care. If you don't floss regularly, your teeth will begin to decay, become discolored, and be susceptible to disease. And once this process happens, it can be treated but not reversed. You'll be much better off if you protect your teeth now in order to save them in the future.

Lower Sugar Consumption

In your 30s, weight doesn't fall off quite as easily as it used to. Along with this issue, this is also the decade when many find growing health problems such as prediabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. It's definitely time to improve your diet, and one of the best and most effective ways to do this is by lowering the amount of sugar that you eat. It won't be easy, but your future self will thank you for your efforts.

Stretch

We all lose flexibility as we age. When you were younger, you could probably rarely exercise and still touch your toes. What about now? Can you touch your toes? Your knees? If you want to maintain flexibility, you need to start stretching every day. First thing in the morning or just before bed, get in a good, deep stretch to protect your body and to stay limber.

Make Time for Self-Care

If you haven't made time for self-care, it's time to start today. This doesn't mean going out for drinks with friends -- you've probably been doing that anyway. This self-care refers to regular trips to the doctor, taking days off of work, saying no to extra responsibilities, and using quality products in and on your body. You're not getting any younger, and getting older isn't easy. Take care of yourself now and don't stop.

If you're nearing 30, or if you passed it years ago, it's time to start paying attention to your health. Sure, you should have started years ago, but today is the next best time! Focus on these areas of your life, and you may find improvements quickly. With the right prevention and personal care, you may be able to improve your life moving forward and for many years to come.
