Field Hockey Can Be a Family Game to Improve Health
By Tom Herrin
Everyone needs a good outlet for both exercise and interaction with others. When they can combine all of the things they need together, it can be a much more efficient use of their time. It is amazing what can be attractive to the entire family in the way of games and activities. One of those games that may surprise people is field hockey. It sounds like a lot of running, getting really tired, and making contact with one another. While it sometimes does contain a lot of those elements, it can also be a fairly laid back activity that is fun and moderate. Once they see it played, kids usually love it. Adults tend to be motivated as well as soon as they get a little involved.
It Can Improve Coordination and Balance
The game requires participants to move in a lot of different directions. Moving side to side to keep up with the ball or puck will be a necessity. They will also need to keep themselves lower as they move. The additional component of running or jogging while using the stick to play the game will add considerable work on coordination. As many people age, they find themselves more prone to accidents often due to having poorer coordination and/or balance. This game can help that.
It Can Burn Some Calories
Losing weight is a high priority for plenty of people. The best way to do so is to reduce total calories and eat the right foods. After beginning a good diet, many people need to burn some calories to get them going in the right direction towards losing those pounds. Playing field hockey is fun. When people are having fun, it is much easier to get exercise without realizing how much they are doing. The game may be played at a slow pace to begin with. As people play a few times, they are more likely to naturally speed up their pace as they improve their conditioning.
It May Build Teamwork
Not everyone is looking for the chance to be on some kind of sports team. Teamwork is not limited to that. Many of our jobs require teamwork for greater success. Our families should function as a team as well. A game such as field hockey is a great way to improve the team concept. It certainly requires dependence on others and will be a way of building that trust needed to do so. It may not be the first thing that comes to mind for you, but field hockey can be a lot of fun and exercise for you and your family or a group of friends.
