How to Enjoy the Spring Sun Safely
By Donna Stark
The arrival of spring provides many opportunities to head outside and spend time with Mother Nature, but before you run out the door, you may want to make sure you are protecting your skin. Skin protection is just as important in the spring as it is in the summer because sunburns will still sneak up on you even when the temperatures aren't sizzling and spicy. So, what does it mean to keep your skin safe? Take a look at the following tips from your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic.
Wear Sunscreen
One of the easiest ways to block the sun's harmful rays is to apply sunscreen before you go outside. You can choose to apply sunscreen directly or you can look for beauty products that contain some added sunscreen in them. Take your time while selecting these products too. Remember, your skin is the body's largest organ so you will want to make sure that what you are applying is safe. Aiming for all-natural and organic ingredients is a great way to do so.
Reapply Frequently
Now that you have the proper sunscreen product in your hands, make sure you are using it correctly. If you plan on being outdoors for more than a couple of hours, it will need to be reapplied. This is especially important if you are sweating or swimming a lot.
Find Some Shade
Even if you are wearing sunscreen and reapplying every couple of hours, it's still a good idea to give your body a break by finding some shade. Whether you step inside, sit under a tree, or wear a wide-brimmed hat, keeping the rays off your body as frequently as you can will help reduce the risk of damage to your skin.
Provide Relief
If, on the off-chance you do get a sunburn, treat your body to some relief. Cool compresses, proper hydration, and taking yourself indoors are great ways to start healing your body immediately. You can also use pure aloe gel on the burn, but if your burn starts to blister or if you experience a high fever and chills, see a medical professional for help right away.
Get Out and Enjoy the Sun Safely
Don't let the threat of a sunburn keep you from enjoying the beautiful weather outside. Just be sure to take the proper steps to keep your skin protected and healthy. Remember, a mild sunburn can turn into a serious issue very quickly, so pay attention to how much sun you are exposing your body to. It could save you from a lot of unnecessary pain and discomfort.
