Your Health is Your Choice: See How It Works

By Genevieve Cunningham

There are many things about our health that are out of our control. We can't always predict what illness we'll get. We don't always know when injuries are going to happen. All we can do is prepare ourselves by staying as healthy as possible. But even though this is true, it's important to remember that there are many aspects of our health that are completely in our control. We can make a difference in our own health if we make it a priority. But how? How do we make good choices that affect our long-term wellness? It's easier than you think. To get in control of your health and move it in a positive direction, take a look at these tips to try starting today.

Eat Well

The food that you put into your body is completely your choice. You don't have to eat donuts and french fries -- you choose to. If you want to live a healthier life, choose healthier foods. No, it's not appealing in the beginning. It's frustrating to turn down the sweets and chips and choose fruits and vegetables instead. But it's also much better for your overall health. And the more you do it, the easier it will get, and the better you'll feel about your health and yourself as a whole.

Maintain a Healthy Body Weight

Weight gain isn't always in our control. Sometimes illness or disease affects this aspect of our health. But in most instances, our body weight is affected by our own habits. If you want to be healthy, you need a healthy body weight. And in order to have a healthy body weight, you need to make good choices about food and exercise. This is something that is in your control. Choose wisely, and you're far more likely to maintain a good weight for your frame.

See a Healthcare Professional

Seeing a doctor can be expensive, and our financial situations aren't always in our complete control. But most of the time, you can find a doctor or healthcare professional who is willing to work with you. The key is to ask. And then to ask again. And then to ask another doctor. Regular checkups keep us healthier -- it's been proven time and again. Don't just assume that you can't see a doctor because of finances. Find free or sliding scale resources if need be, but do what it takes to get the help you need.

Your health isn't always your choice. We don't choose cancer or diabetes or any other number of diseases. But our prevention methods, our self-care, our attention to our bodies -- all of these are within our control! Use these tips to stay on top of your health, and experience better health in no time at all.
