How to Boost Energy and Fight Fatigue

Everyone gets tired sometimes. But if you find that you are dragging at about the same time every day, then you need to do something to fight off that fatigue. Here are four ways you can help to add a little more pep to your step and stay energized all day long.

Don’t Skip Breakfast

Breakfast really is an important meal because it sets you up for the whole day. If you notice that you’re getting tired in the late morning and you skipped breakfast, that may be the reason why. People who eat breakfast regularly report being in a better mood and having more energy to last them all day. It gets your metabolism going and fuels your body, especially if you eat a breakfast high in fiber with complex carbohydrates, such as oatmeal. You’ll notice you’re more alert and productive.

Have a Healthy Snack

When the late afternoon fatigue hits, it’s best to have something healthy instead of reaching for a sugar-laden treat, which will leave you feeling just as tired once the sugar buzz wears off. To add some pep to your afternoon, try a snack with protein and complex carbohydrates such as peanut butter on whole-grain crackers or a snack high in magnesium such as hazelnuts, almonds, and cashews. These snacks will help give you more energy than anything from the vending machine.

Take Breaks

Sometimes you get tired because your brain is overloaded. If you’ve been hard at work on a project on your computer, you may notice your eyes getting tired, too. The best way to combat this is by taking short breaks throughout the day. Taking just five or so minutes to rest your brain and eyes several times a day can make a big difference in your energy level. Close your eyes, do some deep breathing, and clear your mind for just a few minutes – it’ll work wonders!

Move Your Body

When you’re tired, the last thing you want to do is exercise – but that’s exactly what you need to do! Exercising will actually help to give you more energy, so try to work in a brisk walk for just 10 minutes on your lunch break; it’ll help your mood improve, too!
