Springtime Fitness Resolutions

It’s no wonder that so many New Year’s resolutions start to falter after a month or two of making them. For so many people in this country, winter is still brewing and the mood during this time is one of resignation. We know that spring is around the corner, but it can be an awfully long walk to get there when the months are filled with overcast skies, freezing days, and the dreaded onslaught of slush, sleet, and more snow.

We should change the tradition of New Year’s resolutions and instead of making them on the first day of the year, we should make them on the first day of spring. Spring is the time when growth and change happen on a daily basis. It’s a time of awakening … and many of our resolutions are based on that foundation alone. We want change. We want to start waking up to a newer, better version of ourselves.

What Will Your Springtime Resolution Be?

The best time to make a fitness resolution is in the spring because the days are longer, sunnier, and warmer, and our moods are actually on the sunnier side as well. Here are some ideas to get you outside so that you can get back to being fit!

  • Start gardening
  • Join a coed sports league
  • Take a hike or explore a new area
  • Register for a mud run
  • Go on a bike ride
  • Play a round of golf
  • Join a boot camp
  • Go for a run

With spring, you have the opportunity to get out of the stale-air, stinky gyms that have harsh lighting, and embrace a refreshing natural environment. The discomforts of winter have passed, which makes exercising outdoors so much easier. Long gone are the days when you are jogging on the streets, getting splattered with dirty slush. And in addition to that, being outdoors has been shown to have a positive impact on a person’s mental health and social interactions as well. So you’re getting fit, you’re seeing friends, and you’re much happier while doing it all. Can it get any better than that?
