Be Your Best With a Healthy Diet
By Donna Stark
Do you ever find yourself standing in the middle of the kitchen, stuffing a handful of chips in your mouth while reaching for a soda to gulp, wondering why you're not the person you promised yourself to be when you were shopping in your grocer's produce aisle? You know what I mean, the pledge you made to yourself when you were surrounded by all of the beautiful colors and all of those wonderful, citrus-y scents. The commitment you made to start eating more fruit and vegetables, to fill your plate with added greens, and to eat that cup of blueberries every morning. It's called living life on the veg and it's a pledge we all find ourselves making at some point or another in our lifetimes, isn't it?
Reasons to Eat Healthier
So many people rely on takeout and vending machine junk food to get them through their days yet don't pay attention to the long-term effects that doing so can have on their body. Eating too much of those types of food can have horrible results on a person's overall health and wellness, so being intentional with what the body is fueled with is critical. Here are some reasons why you should seriously consider living life on the veg.
- Weight loss - Healthy eating is the first step to losing those extra pounds and then maintaining your ideal weight. When you reduce your intake of sugar, sodium, unhealthy fats, and processed foods, and eat more fruits and vegetables in all of your meals, you'll have exactly what you need to reach your health and fitness goals.
- Chronic Issues - Consuming an unhealthy diet can drastically increase the risk of developing certain health conditions, such as diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. So fill your diet with nutrient-dense foods and heart-healthy fats to avoid the potential chronic issues that may be looming in the future.
- Energy - Feeling tired all of the time? Your diet may very well be the cause! Consuming healthy foods will give your body all of the vitamins and nutrients that it needs to get you through the day without the need for overly-caffeinated or energy drinks. Choose foods that release energy slowly, such as bananas and peanut butter.
- Overall health - Establishing a healthy diet will lead to the optimal function of your body, less sick days, improved appearance of your skin and hair, and the ability to do more of what you love. No amount of junk food, regardless of how tasty it is, overrides those benefits, so start eating better as soon as you can!
Living Life on the Edge
Living life on the edge may sound exciting, but it's not if it means you are continuing to eat unhealthily. So live life on the veg instead and head on back to your grocer's produce section and make that pledge all over again. Only this time, you need stick to it.
