How to Be More Productive at Work

By Donna Stark

Do you struggle to get everything checked off your to-do list during the day? Do you end your workdays feeling as if you weren't even at work? If you run out of time to get everything you want or need to be done, you may want to learn how to manage your days better. But what does that mean exactly? Well, that's a great question! Take a look at the following suggestions from your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic on how to do so.

Cut Out the Chit Chat

It's perfectly fine to say a quick good morning and to ask how a person is doing, but don't let your watercooler chit chats turn into lengthy conversations. Politely end the conversation and get to work. The same goes for social media too. Limit yourself to only a few minutes in the morning to catch up on the news or to read any messages from friends or family, and when that time is up, put your phone away.

Remove Distractions

Turn the notifications off your phone, hang a "do not disturb" sign on your office door, and establish boundaries with coworkers. If you need to be accessible to others, try to designate fixed times throughout the day when they can reach you (for example, the first 15 minutes of every hour). By removing distractions and designating specific times to be available, you will be able to stay on top of your daily schedule better.

Prioritize Your Tasks

The most efficient way to manage your day is to prioritize your tasks and list them in order of importance. By doing this, you can address the most pressing issues first and won't have any problems finishing the most important jobs of the day. An especially helpful tip when creating your to-do list is to bundle similar tasks together. So, for example, if you have several errands to run throughout the day, do them all at once!

Is there just too much on your plate to get done in a reasonable amount of time? Is there a task or two that somebody could help you with? Sure, not everyone is able to delegate, but if you are, don't be afraid to do so! Remember, though, delegating doesn't mean you can hand over your work so you can sit back and relax. It means you are sharing the workload so you can get other, possibly more important, things done!

Better, More Productive Days Ahead

Being intentional with the minutes in your hours and consciously approaching your days by thinking about effective ways to manage your time will not only help you at work, but will also give you more time to engage in the activities and relationships you love the most. So, go ahead and start with the above suggestions today. You won't regret doing so!
