Looking For Hardcore Results From Soft Activities?
By Tom Herrin
When we realize that we are no longer in the kind of shape we used to be in, we often try to imagine ourselves in what our prime should be. We may remember those days when we could go out and be active with a group of friends and do pretty much whatever we wanted to. It may seem like we still could, but we find that we are quickly out of breath and are in some shock to discover just what our condition is. We don’t have to necessarily write off our health as something long forgotten. All we really have to do is make a plan and start a program to regain much of what we lost.
Success Has To Come In Increments
Recognizing you are really out of shape is a good place to start. In order to improve your conditioning, you have to begin with something that you can do. If you thought you were in better shape, you are probably capable of walking, but even that will take some work. Walking is a great way to assess yourself. You can start with something you can manage like walking around the block or to the corner and back. It won’t take long until you can turn 10 minutes of walking into 15 or 20. By the time you get to 30 minutes, you will have begun to feel some results.
Let Everyday Activities Guide You
In today’s world, we have gotten pretty lazy due to modern advances. When I was young, I had to get up and walk across the room to change the channel on the television. If you never have to get up, you can get pretty sedentary. Trying to find ways to do common tasks in a different way can add to your workout. When I began riding a bicycle for exercise, I tried to find ways to do things on the bike that I normally used a car for. Soon I would ride my bike to the post office or corner grocery. It gave me a different perspective that made me feel good.
Once you begin trying to exercise, it really won’t take long until you are able to see and feel progress. Setting goals that increase weekly or monthly will help you to measure it. Write them down so that you can check them off. More than likely you will be able to increase the difficulty of your exercise in only a few weeks or months. There is nothing wrong with being a softy to start because if you stay with it, you will enjoy challenging yourself with increasingly difficult tasks. Hardcore results are really not out of the question with a plan.
