Apples Can Enrich Your Diet

One of those foods that we often see as very American is the apple.  Apples seem to be readily available and come in a large variety of kinds.  They are also easily portable and usually require little or no extra care or refrigeration for storing.  They can be readily added as a part of meals or snacks.  Their cost is generally low when considering the number of ways they can make any of us healthier.  They can solve a lot of problems that many people commonly experience.

They Are Really Nutritious

Apples are packed with vitamins.  Vitamins C, K, B6, and riboflavin are abundant.  They also contain minerals such as copper, potassium, magnesium, and manganese.  Their fiber content can provide a much as 12 percent of the recommended daily amount.  They have the ability to manage the way in which the body deals with carbohydrates in that they may help to keep blood sugar under control.

They Can Help With Digestion and Weight Loss

Since apples have a high water content, they may be more filling.  Many people simply don’t drink enough water, which can often contribute to a feeling of hunger.  Apples tend to help move other foods along in the digestive system.  It is believed that eating them before some other foods can help to negate the absorption of the those calories.  

They Are Heart-Healthy

Apples can have the effect of cleaning out the fats and other bad substances in the arteries.  They can also lower the level of cholesterol and reduce the oxidation of some fats.  They contain a substance that can reduce inflammation in the blood vessels as well by reducing a protein in the blood.

They Can Make a Great Snack or Meal Additive

Apples make a great addition to salads.  They can be used to dress up a number of other foods, adding a special flavor.  As a snack, they are really hard to beat.  Part of this is because they store well.  They can go for quite some time without any need for refrigeration.  Many fast food places now serve apple slices as a healthier treat, especially for children -- often offering them as a replacement for fries.  What a comparison!  Eliminate the fats, salts, and carbs of fries and replace them with sweet healthy apples.  For those interested in better health, there is little choice.
