Anytime someone asks about bread in a good diet, many people pause. This is because bread has played a mixed role in diets. For many years, a lot of people truly believed they did not have a real meal if it did not include bread. Years ago, when people made their own bread from simple grains, there may have been some truth to this. Once bread began to be made from processed flour, the bad effect became quite noticeable. This was the case around the beginning of the twentieth century. The sudden appearance of bread purchased in grocery stores seemed to coincide with a major onset of colon cancers. After a while, many came to be cautious of this product. For those who wish to enjoy bread with their meals, there are some healthy options.
Have You Tried Oat Bread?
All breads are not created equal. One that is a good one is made from oats. We all are aware of some of the great properties of oats. They are known for their benefits in helping to maintain a healthy heart. They appear to lower bad cholesterol, and some believe they may raise good cholesterol. Since oats contain both fiber that is soluble in water and fiber that is not, they are a great source of fiber. This means that they keep us feeling fuller longer. This bread may be a good one for digestion.
Be Cautious of Gluten-free Bread
In recent years, many people have become concerned about gluten. This is found in wheat, rye, and barley, and some people are truly sensitive to it and have a somewhat allergic reaction to it. Gluten-free breads may meet the needs of these individuals, but it may be a decision to be given careful consideration. These breads may fit a particular need, but they are usually stripped of their real nutritional value.
Choose Good Flavor
If you are going to make something a part of a healthy meal, remember that flavor is something that should also be there. If you sacrifice flavor, you may want to find something else to include in your diet. There are some really good breads with wonderful flavors. Try them, but don't marry them. Read those labels. Some of the really good choices may often include a variety of grains. If you can find them in whole grains, you will likely come out a winner.
