When Laughter Breaks Out Everyone Wins

Sometimes we forget just how precious humor can be. Each day rushes by and weekends vanish. Pausing to laugh can be the missing element that nourishes our health.

Laughter changes everything. Families relax as giggles replace shrieks. Work becomes fun again as talk flows.

It really is all about attitude. How you see the world makes the difference. When you smile or chuckle, your body relaxes and your mood expands.  Health experts say laughter lowers stress, reduces pain, and helps to prevent heart disease. It even burns calories. The HelpGuide.org tells us 10 to 15 minutes of laughter per day can burn 40 calories.

Keeping laughter in your life could make a difference.

Humor Eases the Pace

When meetings and projects collide, tension can define the whole day. It’s all too easy to snap first, and apologize later. Starting the day 15 minutes early to take a walk or meditate might help you smile first as you wade into the work. Often you will get a smile in return as the day rolls forward like a lazy river.

The most successful people I know usually have a smile and a positive word. They take the time to connect, answering questions and exchanging thoughts. If something is needed later, they have plenty of people to call.

In a busy world, negatives abound. But staying calm, and seeing the lighter side, can help you sort through issues and untangle situations. The other choice is to push on ahead, muttering as you go. You can be sure you will be a lot less tired at the end of the day if you manage to keep it light.

I know a few rare individuals who always see the humor in life. They may be knee deep in deadlines, but they never lose that ability. One friend says he uses an undercurrent of inner quips to vent a little when he is having an especially challenging day. Maintain a reserve of favorite old movies, funny quotes and humorous friends to call for those days that have been really impossible. Dive right in. Pass the popcorn as you let go of the day.
