When we think of losing weight, many of us picture those who need to lose 50 pounds or more. We think of the people who get help from professionals on “The Biggest Loser” or people who turn to surgery. We rarely picture the person who might benefit from a 10- or 20-pound weight loss … people like the majority of us! Sometimes it seems as though losing these small amounts of weight is even tougher. If you’re looking to just lose a few pounds, take a look at these tips for minor weight loss that may help you reach your ultimate goals.

Drink More Water

You might be shocked at how quickly this works. Drinking more water keeps you feeling fuller longer, which in turn keeps you from overeating. It also means there is less time for sodas and other flavored drinks. Cutting out the calories that you drink is one of the best ways to drop just a few pounds in a relatively short amount of time.

Cut Sugar in Half

Cutting out all of the sugar you eat will probably work faster, but it’s much harder to maintain. Sugar has a way of keeping the pounds on our bodies, especially around the middle. If you’re trying to lose a few, cut back on the amount of sugar you’re eating daily. This might mean less sugar in your coffee, fewer juices, throwing out the presweetened cereal, or changing your favorite snack to something healthy. The hardest part of this is the sticking to it! So get your mind prepared before you embark on this tip.

Lift Weights

Many people are surprised at the huge difference lifting weights makes in their physical structure. If you need to lose some weight, adding some lifting can actually increase your metabolism. It boosts your body’s fat burning ability, and you’ll also build muscle at the same time. It doesn’t have to be super heavy weights either. Start small and light, and work your way to something bigger as your body adjusts.

Sometimes losing weight doesn’t mean losing 100 pounds … it means losing that five or 10 you put on over the holidays or vacation!
