3 Reasons Why Technology Use Before Bed Should Stop
By Genevieve Cunningham
Technology is a wonderful modern luxury. It makes life easier and more convenient. Information is quite literally at the end of our fingertips, and we can use it to find almost anything. But technology has a downside. When we use it too much or at the wrong time of day, it can wreak havoc on our health. Unfortunately, most of us use technology at exactly the wrong time … before bed! If you're ready to improve your health and habits, take a look at these reasons to quit using your favorite device before bed.
The Light Affects Your Eyes
The light that emanates from computer screens and phones is incredibly hard on your eyes. You may have felt a slight burning or aching after staring at the screen for extended periods of time. It can cause strain, which can then lead to headaches and blurred vision. If you want to stop damage to the eyes, shut off your technology well before bed and give your eyes a chance to rest.
It Can Cause Disruption in Sleep
Technology has a way of winding up our brains, causing excessive thinking, and heightening stress. This, when done just before bed, can seriously disrupt our sleep. Do you toss and turn? Do you have a hard time falling asleep? It might be your technology use. Quit using before bed and see if it makes a difference in your overall quality of sleep.
Other Habits May Be More Effective
The truth is that using technology before bed is nothing more than a habit. And when it comes to sleep, there are many habits that can be much more effective. What should you do instead? Read a book, stretch, get a hot shower, take a walk, or have a conversation with a loved one face-to-face. If you change your bedtime habits, it may also change your sleep, thus leaving you healthier and more rested than ever before.
Technology is great. We all love it, and for good reason. It's fun, entertaining, incredibly useful, and a great addition to our lives. But using technology just before bed can seriously hinder your sleep and harm your overall health. Get your habits under control, and you can use your favorite device with a much lower risk of poor health in the future.
