3 Reasons to Eat More Fruit This Spring

By Genevieve Cunningham

This is the time of year when people are patiently (or impatiently!) awaiting the warm weather. We can't wait to get outside and soak in the sun. But besides the anticipation of getting outside, this time of year also brings the desire for change, and it's easy to see why. We change our wardrobe. We participate in new activities. And it's also a great time to change our diets. How can you make this change? One of the easiest ways is to simply add more fruit to your daily menu. If this sounds appealing for the upcoming warm months, take a look at these three great reasons to start now.

For More Nutrients

Luckily, most fruit is packed with vitamins and nutrients. If you choose citrus options -- things like oranges, pineapples, and kiwi -- then you'll get a huge blast of the immune boosting Vitamin C. If you choose apples, you'll be getting a high dose of apples to help move digestion. And almost all fruit is incredibly low calorie, so you'll be adding nutrients without adding to the overall caloric intake for the day.

For the Water Content

A lot of fruit is actually full of water. Apples, watermelon, strawberries, and grapes are just a few of the possibilities. When you consume fruit, you're also consuming water that can keep you hydrated. Does that mean you can skip the water bottle? Of course not. But it does mean that you'll be getting healthy nutrients along with plenty of H2O to keep your body healthier overall.

For the Flavor

Don't forget that fruit tastes delicious. It's sweet (or sometimes tangy) and contains so much juice. Most people enjoy the natural flavors that pour from each bite. But why does this matter? It matters because when something tastes good, you're way more likely to eat it. And it you eat more fruit, you're automatically improving your diet. Pick a few favorites and enjoy completely guilt-free!

Spring is a great time to add fruit to the menu. It's a nice change of pace, and it makes it seem even more like spring. Pick a few favorites and eat them as snacks. Find some recipes and whip up some smoothies. Enjoy them however you like! But add some fruit today, and enjoy the delicious path to a healthier body and mind.
