3 Easy and Healthy Snacks to Take While Traveling
By Genevieve Cunningham
It seems as though the warm weather brings out the traveler in all of us. While we like to stay in under the covers during the winter, the spring makes us want to move and be active. It makes road trips to new places seem like fun again, and most people take advantage of it as quickly as possible. Of course, traveling can be hard on the body, especially on our diet! Quick food is generally unhealthy, but when you’re on the go, quick and easy is what you’re after. If the travel bug has hit you this season, but you’d like to keep your diet in check, take a look at these healthy snacks to add to your bag today.
Apples
Apples are both nutritious and easy, two traits that make them excellent travel companions. As for nutrition, apples contain high amounts of water, potassium, fiber, and Vitamin C. They help clean the teeth, move digestion, and hydrate the body … all of which can be incredibly beneficial while you’re on the move. As for ease, all you need to do with an apple is take it, wash it, and throw it in your bag. When you’re done, just toss the core in the trash and be done with it.
Almonds
Almonds are an incredibly nutritious nut to add to your snack menu. They are full of healthy fats, protein, magnesium, and iron. You can buy them in individually wrapped bags, or you can buy them in bulk and package them for yourself. Either way, they’re super easy to put in your travel snack bag and take with you while you’re on the go.
Rice Cakes
This sounds boring, right? Luckily, rice cakes have come a long way. While they once came in one boring flavor (cardboard, anyone?), they now come in multiple varieties that make the experience a lot better. Apple cinnamon, caramel, and chocolate are just a few of the flavors that you can buy. Rice cakes are incredibly low calorie, and yet they’ll help you feel full until your next meal. If you want something that you don’t even have to think about, rice cakes are one of the easiest options out there.
Traveling can certainly take a toll on your body, but planning ahead can make a huge difference. Use these snacks to keep your diet and calories under control while on the go. With a little planning, some strategic snack packing, and a bit of self-discipline, you can keep your health in check and feel better than ever through your vacation and after.
