3 Little Ways to Improve Focus Right Now
By Genevieve Cunningham
Sometimes paying attention is hard. We don't like to admit it, but everyone experiences a wandering mind in the worst moments. Most of the time, it's not a big deal. We all lose our focus, right? But there are definitely times when we need to get that focus back, and we need it to happen now. If this is you, there's hope! To help you create a plan of action for getting your focus back in a pinch, take a look at these easy little ways to refocus and get productive.
Take a Little Break
Sometimes you just have to stop thinking about a particular problem or situation. If you've been staring at the same computer screen for hours, give yourself a break. A simple five to 10 minutes of doing something else is usually enough to break the monotony and get your brain moving again. Give this a try, and you'll probably quickly find that taking a small break is all it takes to view your problem from a different angle.
Eat a Small Snack
Sometimes the brain gets fatigued because we're hungry. We have to fuel both body and brain. If our blood sugar is getting low, it can make concentration almost unbearable. Try eating a small snack with protein -- think nuts or a protein bar. Or if you'd rather, you can choose something with a natural sugar -- think fruit or natural juice. This can raise your blood sugar, improve your body's energy, and quickly make focus come back.
Do a Quick Exercise
If you've been sitting for a while, it's possible that your body and brain have become sluggish. Of course it's hard to focus! Try getting up and doing a quick powerful exercise. Do a quick 10 jumping jacks, pop a few squats, or briskly walk to the corner of the office and back. Exercise gets the blood moving and wakes up your body and mind. And if you do this often enough, you may sneak in a boost in basic fitness level as well.
Losing your concentration sometimes is a completely normal happening. We all do it! But sometimes we need to get back on track fast. To help you in these moments, use these tips to make a plan of action. With a little knowledge and a plan, you can keep your concentration and get back to business in no time at all.
