Dr. Pouya M. Esfahani loves his role at The Joint Chiropractic and providing local healthcare services to more than one clinic location, Columbia Heights and Laurel, MD.
“I like to adjust patients and help them to decrease pain and discomfort through great chiropractic manipulation techniques,” he says. “We do a full spine adjustment and the patient becomes relaxed very quickly. It’s a fast treatment.”
Dr. Pouya, as his patients call him, was originally from Iran. He worked in Houston, Texas before joining the team at The Joint.
In his free time, Dr. Pouya enjoys playing soccer, taking walks, and watching movies. Before earning a Doctorate at Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena, he studied veterinary medicine at IAU in Iran.
Dr. Pouya became familiar with chiropractic through friends in the field, and he liked seeing results. “I’ve treated a lot of patients who were not able to move because of pain,” he says. “I appreciate working quickly and professionally with a great team.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
He always has coffee, fruit, and snacks available, “to gain calm, get enough vitamins, and feel full.”
Among his most meaningful accomplishments, Dr. Pouya says that working with patients tops the list. “Helping patients who have a lot of pain and treating them to decrease pain and suffering is the greatest thing I have done.”
Dr. Pouya enjoys reading historical books about his home country of Iran.
Dr. Ahmed Migdadi, D.C. was raised in Oak Creek, WI, a small town south of Milwaukee. As Kid, he was a devoted athlete participating in soccer, basketball, and football. He earned his bachelor’s degree at UWM in biochemistry. As a result of his unrelenting interest in athletics and science of the human body anatomy, he enrolled at National University of Health Sciences, located in Lombard, IL. Throughout his four years at NUHS, he learned sharp approaches to patient care by combining clinical skills and making a treatment plan that fits the particular person's needs. His professional protocols include spinal and extremity manipulation, advanced rehabilitation exercises, nutrition, and kinseo-taping. One of his specialties is dealing with chronic headaches and migraines. He offers unique treatments for infants, children, adults, and elderly patients. “What continues to inspire me, as chiropractic physician” is to improve the public health and outlook on how to best stay healthy. It always seems that we are the last hope for many patients that fear there may not be an answer to the health challenges they face. I enjoy those challenges; it makes you go the distance to provide those solutions for these challenging problems. I have a passion for helping others and helping to improve patients overall health and wellness.
Dr. Sydney Gainous became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare clinics in 2023 when she began serving residents in the Washington, D.C. area, continuing the work she finds so gratifying.
“The best thing about being a chiropractor is helping patients achieve true health in a holistic manner, without the use of drugs and surgery,” she says. “The second best thing about being a chiropractor is meeting and connecting with people from various backgrounds and giving them a sense of hope.”
Dr. Sydney, as her patients call her, was born and raised in Prince George's County, Maryland, in the city of Upper Marlboro. “Growing up, going to the chiropractor wasn't a common practice in my community,” she says. “While an undergraduate, I was at a crossroads about whether medical school was something I really wanted to pursue. When I briefly learned about chiropractic during my senior year, I was intrigued and wanted to know more. While visiting a chiropractic school a month before graduation, I instantly knew that this was the profession for me. The vitalistic philosophy resonated well with my beliefs as a health professional.”
Dr. Sydney has one son, who she loves to take for walks and to weekly mommy-and-me swim classes. In her spare time she enjoys working out, going shopping, and binge-watching her favorite TV shows.
She attended North Carolina A&T State University and earned a bachelor of science degree in biology at Bowie State University in Md. Dr. Sydney got a Doctorate of Chiropractic at Life University in Marietta, Ga.
Dr. Sydney felt called to the chiropractic field after discovering a quote from Thomas Edison: "The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patient in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease." Her most meaningful experience as a chiropractor occurred on a seven-day chiropractic mission trip to Haiti and the Dominican Republic with other students and doctors.
“During this trip, we provided chiropractic care to thousands of people, including pregnant women and newborn babies, and spent quality time with kids at a Haitian orphanage,” Dr. Sydney says. “This experience was truly eye-opening and life-changing. To be among people who are depleted of the many things and resources we have here in the United States changed my entire perspective on life. They taught me that true joy and happiness aren’t based on material items or circumstances. True joy and happiness come from having a strong and intimate relationship with Christ. I left the trip feeling nothing but gratitude.”
These are the values Dr. Sydney brings to her work at The Joint. “I hope to provide care and restore hope to many people from all types of backgrounds,” she says. “I also hope to build a strong clientele and create a safe space for patients.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
One thing she always keeps stocked in her refrigerator is fruit, because it's her favorite food.
If she created the perfect dinner party, including four famous guests, Dr. Sydney would invite: Michelle Obama - “I want to hear about her life experiences and how they have shaped her into the woman she is today.” Tyler Perry - “I want to know how he built his empire after being raised in poverty.” Jeff Bezos - “I want to know how he came up with the concept of Amazon and built it to be a billion-dollar company.” Beyonce - “I want to know how she has continued to reinvent herself and have longevity in the music industry.”
A book Dr. Sydney read that means a lot to her is The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Don Miguel Ruiz. “This book has taught me how to live a more fulfilling and joyful life without unnecessary stress or worry.”
