3 Healthy Reasons to Put Your Kids to Bed Early

By Genevieve Cunningham

Kids need a lot of sleep. Research shows that kids should be put to bed relatively early. Sometimes it seems too early. But there's a reason that they encourage kids to get so much sleep. If you are hesitant to send your little ones to bed while it's still light outside, take a look at these reasons why it's actually a good idea to put your kids to bed early and allow them to get a lot of sleep.

To Help Them Grow

Kids of all ages are still growing. We know that young children are growing, but sometimes we forget that older kids are still in the midst of their growth spurt years. Sleep allows their bodies to grow efficiently. It also allows them the rest that they need to recuperate from this experience. It's hard on the body to grow. That's why so many kids suffer from things like growing pains. If your child seems to be growing rapidly, put them to bed and let them get the rest they need to grow big, strong, and as healthy as possible.

To Keep Their Immune System Healthy

Kids are going to get sick. It's a fact of life. They are exposed to so many people and so many germs on a daily basis. But if you can keep their immune system strong, it's easier for them to fight off the illness before it takes over their little bodies. In order to keep the immune system strong, kids need a good diet, exercise, and plenty of rest. Putting your kids to bed early may actually be strengthening their immunities and keeping them from getting sick in the future.

To Stabilize Their Moods

If you've never been around a kid who's sleep-deprived, you are very lucky. Kids who don't get enough sleep are incredibly grumpy. Their moods are unstable. They may cry one moment, laugh the next, and be angry at the drop of a hat. Why? Because they need sleep. If you want to help your little one gain some emotional control and stabilize their moods, help them get the rest they need by sticking to a decent bedtime.

It might seem strange to send your kid to bed when it's still light outside, but it might be needed in order to keep them healthy. Do what's best for your child. Only you know how much rest they need to grow and thrive. With enough rest your child may be able to function on a healthy and happy level everyday.
