To Soothe your Tummy, Peppermint it Up
By Sabine Docteur
Peppermint is primarily known for its wonderful flavoring and scent. It can be found in a variety of health products that include toothpaste and mouthwashes, but its uses and benefits as an aid in digestive health should not be ignored. Peppermint is an herb which has been used to soothe stomachaches, indigestion and a number of other digestive conditions. Here are some benefits of peppermint and some unique ways to use it for better health.
Peppermint Health Benefits
When I have a stomachache, my first instinct is to grab a peppermint candy and enjoy to soothe my stomach. There is a clear reason for that; because I have an idea that it will do the job. Peppermint has long been used to treat digestive ailments such as nausea and gas. In its oil form and tea form, peppermint can serve as a natural remedy for stomach bloating, pain and irregularity. Peppermint might even be helpful for people suffering from irritable bowel syndrome.
To ease the stomach after a hefty meal, many people might opt for a peppermint gum or a mint for quick relief. It will be surprising to know, also, that taking a cup of water with a drop of peppermint oil can provide that same relief, if not better. Peppermint tea is more widely known, but actually has lower effects than the oil itself, made from the leaves of the herb through distillation and extraction.
Unique Usage of Peppermint
There are a number of ways one can get the full benefits of peppermint for better digestive health. For example, in the mornings, a small drop of peppermint oil can be used in fruit smoothies. Even a small piece of the leaf can be blended in the smoothie. Coffee drinkers can enjoy a wonderful twist on their morning mocha with a drop of peppermint oil. Other unique creations such as peppermint ice cream, cookies and brownies can be made with the help of the oil.
Although one of its claims to fame is being a part of signature flavors that include vanilla, coconut, and cinnamon, peppermint has earned its spot of being a unique herb for digestive health. For any rumblings in the tummy, peppermint can be trusted to provide some relief. A well-known component to improve digestion, peppermint is not only savory, but great for better health.
