How to Work Out Even When You're Busy

By Sara Butler

Life can be pretty busy. With everything you have to get done in a short 24 hours, it can really feel like you have no time to do it all. That feeling can result in skipping things that are important to your health and wellness, such as exercise.

It's common for people to claim they don't have enough time to exercise, but the truth of the matter is that there are a variety of ways even the busiest person can find the time to work out. Make exercise a priority and use a few of these tips to help sneak it into your day. It will have huge benefits for your health and continued wellness.

Cleaning the House? It's a Workout

The chores you do around the house totally count as a workout. Whether it's vacuuming or cooking, you can kick it up a notch to help you get your body moving and your heart pumping. Plus, for the perpetually busy, turning your household chores into a workout is true multi-tasking! All that bending, lifting, walking, and scrubbing can target muscles and torch calories to help you get fit.

Something is Always Better Than Nothing

You may not have time to make it to the gym for a full 60-minute group exercise class, but don't throw all exercise out the window because you can't do what you really want. It's important to remember that doing something to get your body moving is always going to be better than doing nothing at all.

Take a quick walk around your neighborhood, toss the ball around the yard with your kids or pets before dinner, or take the stairs instead of the elevator at work today. The point is, there's plenty of extra movement that can be found in your day if you look hard enough.

Kick Things Up a Notch

Challenge yourself by making things just a little bit harder. A great example is parking farther away from the main entrance to your office building to get in extra steps. Or go to the bathroom on another floor and take the stairs when it's time for a restroom break. Look for opportunities to turn everyday tasks into exercise -- you may be surprised at what you find.

Exercise can be easy to find with just a few simple changes to your routine. Try some of these suggestions and see where they take you!
