Try These Exercises for Better Health
By Stephen R. Farris
Looking to get in better shape, but not sure how? Maybe you're concerned about your age and the fact you're beginning to feel aches and pains in places you haven't felt them before. Getting into a daily exercise routine can actually help, but with any physical activity you should check with your doctor or chiropractor to make sure you're healthy enough to go forward. Plus, those aches and pains could be from an underlying health condition. Just be sure to let them know so they can check it out.
So after getting the nod to proceed with exercising, where do you begin? Good question.
A lot of people think in order to get in shape, you have to spend tons of money on a gym membership, or buy expensive gear (home gym, rowing machines, stair stepper, etc.) or a bunch of free weights. However, depending on what level you actually want to start at, you don't need all of those things. Maybe a few dumbbells, or rubber bands, but other than that -- if needed -- all you really need to get started is you.
So let's take a look at a few exercises that you can start and are low-key.
- Lunges
- Push-ups
- Squats
- Standing overhead dumbbell presses
- Dumbbell rows
- One-legged deadlifts
- Burpees
- Side planks
- Sit-ups
- Glute bridges
These are good exercises for beginners and can be performed by people of all ages. But before you get started, sit down and make some fitness goals. Determine how much time you have each day -- or during the week -- for exercise. Normally it's recommended to exercise every other day for at least 45 minutes. The time can be broken up in 15-minute increments if you prefer. Also, try to do at least a couple of sets for each exercise, and about 10 reps per set.
If you're not sure how to perform each exercise, there are plenty of videos available for free on websites, such as YouTube, that can be of help.
You can always stop in and visit with your local chiropractor to hear some of the tips and suggestions they can offer to help with your fitness and nutritional needs. They can also help you get relief from any aches and pains you may be feeling in your back, neck, and joints.
