3 Unhealthy Foods to Totally Quit This Year
By Genevieve Cunningham
The new year is an exciting time. Whether it’s actually New Year’s Day, sometime in February, or heading into March, the year is still just beginning. And the beginning of a new year is a great time to make positive changes and defeat old bad habits. But where do we begin? Most people have a million things that need to be changed, and changing them all at once is a recipe for failure. If you’re looking for an easy first step, take a look at these three foods to quit this year for better health and wellness.
Chips
Chips are one of the easiest and most addictive quick snacks. But you know what else? They’re also among the most unhealthy! Chips are packed full of fat, sodium, and needless calories. They don’t contain any nutritional value, and yet they significantly detract from your overall caloric intake. Skip the chips in the new year, and instead, replace them with a veggie or fruit choice. This one step is likely to help you shed a few pounds, clear your skin, and feel better than you have in years.
Candy
Candy is so good … and so bad! Most candy contains massive amounts of calories per serving. It’s packed full of sugar, and for many people, it’s a bit addictive. Once you start reaching for a candy bar for a snack, you keep reaching a few times a day. Do your best to give up as much candy as you can. If you eat a lot, cut back, and then cut back again. Getting rid of this habit can make a big dent in your weight loss and fitness goals, so break the addiction and enjoy the healthy benefits.
Soda
This is a tough one for a lot of people. Soda is full of flavor, and it also contains the addictive substance, caffeine. Once we develop a soda habit, it’s one of the toughest diet habits to break. But skipping soda and opting for water instead will make you feel so much better. You’ll feel less bloated without the carbonation, less of a crash without the quick sugar, and you’ll consume fewer calories. If need be, break this habit slowly. But break it nonetheless if you really want to improve your diet for good.
It can be difficult to change your diet and quit some of your old favorite foods. But it’s likely necessary in order to improve your diet and basic health. Start with these three foods and ban them from your kitchen this year. It’ll be a great start in the right direction. With a little persistence and some willpower, you can make this the best and healthiest year yet.
