How Your Kids Can Help Keep You Healthy
By Genevieve Cunningham
A lot of times when we think about kids, we imagine sickness. It's not that kids make us sick, but rather that kids tend to be constantly covered in germs. And this can mean that various illnesses hit your home all year long. And while this is definitely a part of having kids, it turns out that kids can also help you stay healthy. If you have kids in your home, take a look at these ways in which they may be able to help you stay healthy and strong.
They Keep You Moving
Kids are absolutely nonstop. If only we had that kind of energy. Depending on the age of your children, movement and activity may be slightly different. But one thing is for certain, kids are going to keep you on your toes. From day trips to sports events to running in the yard to playing on the playground, kids will keep your body challenged and in shape. If you thought that having kids meant cuddling on the couch with a movie, you're in for a rude awakening. But since all of that movement can definitely keep you healthier in the long run, this may actually be a perk that works out to your advantage.
Kids Can Keep Your Brain Sharp
Having kids around can keep your mind sharp and engaged. Kids are always asking a million questions. They're saying funny things, asking questions you haven't thought of in a while, and forcing you to think outside of the box. While this can be frustrating at times, it's mostly a really good thing. The kids are learning, and you are keeping your brain active and sharp. In the long run, this will be a huge advantage over those who aren't bombarded with these tasks on a daily basis.
Kids Can Help Build Immunities
It's true that kids are constantly bringing sickness into your life. And while this is definitely a disadvantage in many ways, exposing you to germs can actually help build your immune system. The more germs that you're exposed to in small doses, the more prepared your body is to fight them off. While it's definitely not fun when a kid brings home the flu, it's a bit of a blessing when you already have an immunity to that stomach bug or the latest cold. So the next time your whole family gets sick, think of it as an immune boosting session rather than the frustrating situation that it really is.
Kids are a ton of fun. They're a lot of work and a ton of worry, but they really bring a lot of good into our lives. And when it comes to health, they may actually keep us healthier longer. Teach your children healthy lifestyle habits, involve them in making healthy decisions, and you may be able to keep each other healthy for a lifetime of health and happiness.
