3 Reasons Why You Feel Unhappy

By Genevieve Cunningham

Everyone knows that feeling of being unhappy. Sometimes it’s because of an event or a situation in our lives. And other times, the unhappiness seems to hit for no reason at all. While no one likes to feel down, we understand that certain moments call for melancholy. But when it happens for seemingly no reason … that can be incredibly frustrating. The good news is that most poor moods aren’t actually happening for no reason. We just don’t understand the reason. If you’re ready to kick bad moods to the curb for good, take a look at these three possible reasons for your unhappiness, followed by ways to feel better now.

You're Too Busy

Being busy can be good. It means that you’re active and engaged in life. But being too busy is problematic. When we’re too busy, it can cause stress, exhaustion, the inability to concentrate, and irritability. If you’re too busy, do your best to cut back on your activities and obligations. It may be tough to determine which activities should be cut, but it will be worth it when your mental and emotional health improve.

You Procrastinate

Procrastination is an enemy to everyone. Almost all of us procrastinate, and we all hate that rushed, always behind, inadequate feeling that comes as a result. If you’re a procrastinator, you have your work cut out for you. Ending this bad habit is incredibly difficult. You’ll need serious determination, a strong desire to change, and a plan of action. But if you can stop procrastination, you will likely see everything about your health improve, most specifically your moods, motivation, and productivity.

You Never Take Risks

Don’t worry, you don’t have to bungee jump or skydive. But everyone should be taking some kind of risks in their life. If you never take any risks at all, your life will be boring, and you’ll likely grow to feel stifled and irritated. Start small. Choose the new restaurant with the name you can’t pronounce. Go see the movie alone. Take the promotion. Even small risks can make us feel alive and happy. Just change it up! Variety is the spice of life, so don’t be afraid to get in there and try new things.

Don’t despair if you occasionally have a bad mood. It’s OK to feel your emotions. But if you’re constantly unhappy, it might be time to make some changes in your life. Use these tips to turn things around in a subtle way, and you may find more happiness and more stable moods become a part of your life in no time at all.
