It's Prevention Time: How to Skip Illness

Being sick is the worst. Maybe you go to bed feeling perfectly fine, but then wake up with a pounding head, stuffy nose, and scratchy throat. Or maybe you have a stomach ache that keeps you on the bathroom floor all night. No matter what your ailment, there's no doubt that being sick is frustrating and miserable. Luckily, there are things that you can do to help prevent some of these illnesses. Want to get started? Take a look at these tips for preventing illness and feeling your best all year long.

Get Rid of Germs

If you get the germs out of your life, it will be easier to stay well. Of course, it's not possible to avoid or eliminate all germs, but you can certainly make a solid effort. Start by keeping germs away from your body. Wash your hands and clothing and handheld items often. Cover your mouth and nose in big crowds. Avoid as many germs as you can -- or wash them away as quickly as possible -- and your chances of staying well go up tremendously. 

Boost the Immune System

Your immune system was made to fight off illness. That's exactly what it's for! But it can only work if it has the tools that it needs to be strong. In order to strengthen your immune system, make sure that you're fueling it properly. Eat plenty of vegetables and fruit. Skip junk food as much as possible. And whatever you do, drink plenty of water! You can also supplement your diet with Vitamin C -- an immune boosting super vitamin that works well for giving your immune system strength.

See Your Doctor

In many instances of illness, the sooner you get help, the faster and more effective treatment will be. Unfortunately, many of us like to wait until the last possible moment to get help. Whether it's because of the price of a doctor's visit or the time it requires or simple fear, we put it off for as long as possible. But a better idea is to go see a doctor early in your illness. This gives you a chance to begin treatment and alleviate suffering before it gets worse.

Everyone is going to get sick. We're all going to experience various illnesses throughout our lives. And while there isn't anything we can do to go through life sick-free, we can definitely improve our chances of staying well. Use these tips to get started, and you can strengthen your body and improve your health for years to come.
