3 Reasons Why Your Mental Health Needs a Break Now
By Genevieve Cunningham
Your mental health is a big deal. It's not something that we can turn off or put on pause. It's not something we can ignore. Our mental health is always something to think about, care about, and improve. But how? While there are many different methods for managing your long-term mental wellness, one great way to keep it in check is by simply taking a break. If mental health is important to you, take a look at these three reasons why you should take a break right now.
Because Change is Coming
Change is always coming. Life is changing all the time, so it's not unreasonable to always expect change. But at this time of year -- with the fall season coming and kids going back to school -- the change is completely expected. We know that our routines are about to change. We know that our diets and exercise programs might hit a snag. And since we know this change is coming, why not prepare? Give yourself some time alone or with friends to really relax and unwind before this busy season of life hits and there's absolutely zero time left for yourself.
Because You're Stressed
It doesn't matter who you are or what's going on in your life, stress is a part of it. We all have stress. Sometimes it's because of work. Sometimes it's because of kids. Sometimes it's because of ourselves. And sometimes it's all of it! But no matter what is causing your stress, too much can be damaging to both your mental and physical well-being. If good mental health is part of your long-term plan (and it definitely should be!), make sure that you're taking breaks to allow that stress to dissipate. It may not ever completely go away, but it might keep it at a tolerable level.
Because Rest is Healing
Rest is so healing to the body and mind, and it's the one thing that we neglect the most. When we're not well rested, we suffer from physical ailments such as aches and pains, and we also suffer from mental ailments such as moodiness and anxiety. We're all running ourselves ragged in this modern world. We need to slow down! Slow down, get rest, and keep your mental health in check.
If you haven't made mental health a priority yet, it's time. Create good self-care habits, listen to a professional if needed, and make sure to take lots of breaks. Allowing yourself a chance to rest, relax, and recharge may be just what you need to stay well. Take a break now to protect your future.
