Small Workout Changes That Make a Big Impact

By Genevieve Cunningham

It's time to change your workout. Sometimes a workout is like an old pair of blue jeans -- you get really comfortable and resistant to change. Of course, eventually those jeans rip and a new pair is inevitable. And the same thing happens to your workout. Your routine gets stale. Your body gets too comfortable. If you want change to happen to your body and in your overall health, you have to make adjustments. Luckily, you can keep your old routine as long as you're willing to make some small changes. If you're looking for a few ways to improve your workout without a complete overhaul, these tips are the perfect place to start.

New Shoes

A lot of people don't even realize that they need new shoes until they get a new pair. And then suddenly, your feet don't hurt. And your legs feel supported. And even your back feels better.  If it's been a while since you've bought a new pair of shoes, try replacing them for a better workout experience.

New Music

We all like music when we workout. Chances are good that you use the same few playlists over and over again. We're creatures of habit. But if you're not feeling your workout recently, it can be really helpful to change out your playlist for new music that can keep you motivated and excited. Music is powerful, and if you use it appropriately, it can really amp up your workout, your mood, and your results.

Faster Time

Sometimes we just have to go faster. We have to do the same routine but in less time. This pushes your body (and your mind!) just a little bit harder. It forces you to fire your muscles more quickly. It makes your heart beat faster and requires your lungs to pull in more oxygen. If you feel like your workout is suffering, go faster. Do it in less time, and you'll be challenging yourself in a new and successful way.

It doesn't take much to really transform your workout. It just takes some small changes that you do on purpose. It takes some conscious decisions. Decisions that alter your workout in small but deliberate ways. Use these ideas to get started, and watch your workout and your health transform before your very eyes.
