3 Ways to Start the Morning With a Bang
By Genevieve Cunningham
For a lot of people, the mornings are the hardest part of the day. It's the part when we drag. When our minds lack focus. When we just can't seem to find the energy to move or think or work. But the mornings don't have to be such a drag. It will take work, but it's totally possible to make the mornings a much more cheerful, empowering part of your day. If you need a little help making your mornings better, take a look at these tips to try adding into your routine today.
A Little Bit of Quiet Time
Quiet time is completely underrated. There's nothing like a little peace and quiet to start your day off right. It helps stabilize your mood, improves cognitive function, and calms the nerves. If you have to get up before everyone else, do it. If you have to lock your bedroom door for a bit, do it. Do what it takes to wake up slowly and in a calm manner, and you'll see the effects all day long.
A Full Body Stretch
Most people automatically stretch upon waking. But maybe we should take it one step further. Maybe we should stretch on purpose. Maybe we should put together a quick routine that softens and loosens every muscle in the body. This can make your body incredibly comfortable and also lower stress first thing in the morning. And it's so, so easy. Roll out of bed, lie on the floor, stretch it out, and go about the rest of your day.
A Little Bit of Motivation
Some people really need a little motivation in the morning. Something that puts their brain in the right place. For some, this might be soft or inspirational music. For others, it might be a TED talk or a podcast. Find something to brighten your day instead of watching violent, disturbing, or panic-inducing news. A little inspiration can help you keep a positive outlook and affect everything else that happens during your day.
The mornings do not have to be full of dread. They don't have to be that part of the day that you hate. They don't have to be exhausting or grumpy or anything else. They can be whatever you make them! Use these tips to turn your mornings around and feel better about your day and your life from here on out.
