Finding the Fitness in Your Fall Activities
By Brandi Goodman
Fall is here and it's time to start planning out all the fun activities you want to do this season. Apple picking, hayrides, fall festivals, Halloween events, pumpkin patches, and more fill the lists of options available. As you begin to participate, be sure to find the fitness in these fall activities you're doing so you can get plenty of exercise and remain healthy this season.
Binge-Watching Your Fall Favorites
September and October see many new shows begin as well as your previous fall favorites return. Many people spend their evenings sitting in front of the TV watching as these series unfold. Add fitness to this hobby by taking out a treadmill or other piece of gym equipment and putting it in front of the television. You can still watch but you won't be sedentary the entire time.
Hiking Instead of Walking
Though walking is a great workout that you should be doing often, hiking is even more challenging. If you really want to up your fitness, take a hike instead of a walk through the woods as you explore nature and the beauty of the changing leaves. Be sure to have someone with you so you can both watch out for each other.
Yard Work Fun
Yard work is one activity you may not be thrilled about. You'll have to rake up lots of leaves as they make their way from the tree tops to the ground. Turn yard work into fun and incorporate fitness. You and your family can spend time together outside raking up leaves and then jumping into the piles. You can make a race out of it by seeing who can gather up the leaves and dispose of them the fastest.
Plan as Many Activities as Possible
Don't just choose one or two fall activities to participate in. Plan as many as possible so you can get in some unique fitness time all season long. Be sure to participate in all the offerings as well. If you're at a fall festival, don't just enjoy the food and take a hayride. Walk through the entire location and see what they have going on. Try some apple bobbing or play a game. The more you do the more exercise you'll get.
Finding the fitness in your fall activities will help you to stay active this season. You don't want to start the trend early of staying inside and not moving much through the colder months. There's plenty to do and plenty of ways to make the activities you enjoy more fitness-based and worthwhile for your health.
