Subtle Signs You're Getting Healthier
By Sara Butler
Some people eat right and exercise but may not feel as if they’re seeing the results they want. If this sounds familiar, don’t throw in the towel. There are several ways you can tell that what you’re doing is making an impact on your health and fitness. They may be a bit subtler than some of the bigger signs you’re looking for, but they’re no less important benchmarks to help you know you’re on the right track.
Increased Energy
A major perk of working out and eating right is an increased energy level. As you get fitter you should experience an uptick in energy that helps you feel good and add a little skip to your step throughout the day. Regular exercise boosts your baseline energy level, helping you to stave off fatigue and feel better all day long.
You’re Smarter
It’s true! When you improve the health of your overall body you’re also improving the health of your brain. You may notice that your thoughts aren’t as cloudy, you remember things easier, and you just feel sharper! There’s a lot of research that supports the idea that exercise benefits the brain and boosts cognition, so know that you’re working toward a healthy body and mind as you exercise.
You’re Happy
As you work toward a healthier you, you may also notice an increase in mood. Exercise has been found to improve happiness in adults in as little as eight weeks, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
You Eat Less
You may think that if you burn more calories you will need to eat more, but the truth is that the opposite actually occurs. People with a consistent exercise routine often eat less and have a decreased appetite in the wake of their exercise sessions. It’s thought that exercise helps to decrease the levels of the hormones that signal hunger, helping you to naturally eat less.
You Can Do More
Reaching toward new fitness goals and meeting them is a sure sign that what you’re doing is working. It doesn’t matter what your overall goals are -- as long as you continue to push yourself and surpass what you’ve done before, you’re making a difference in your health and wellness.
Living healthy may not always produce the results you want, but rest assured you're doing good things for your body!
