Work Tips to Keep You Pain-Free

By Sara Butler

We live in a digital world. In many ways this makes life easier -- you can access any information in the world. But this life has also led to more people being sedentary and dependent on screens at work and at home. The chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic see many patients every day who are paying the price for all this technology use. They often suffer from aches, pains, strains, eye issues, stress, and issues with sleep that take a toll on their overall health and wellness. To help you stay healthy, the chiropractors at The Joint have a few tips to help you stay healthy, and free from pain, in the workplace.

Computer Screen Height

To avoid issues that can lead to painful conditions of the neck and spine, make sure that your computer screen is at the right height. The monitor you look at needs to be at eye level or just below it. That way you don't have to bend your neck up or down to look at it. Also make sure that your monitor is at about arm's length to you. If it's too far away or too close, then you may unconsciously contort your body in ways that lead to pain and discomfort down the road.

It's a small thing that can make a big difference.

Buy New Equipment

You may love your chair at work, but sentimental value won't do you any good if your chair isn't supporting your body correctly. You need to make sure you invest in quality office furniture in order to keep yourself healthy. Make sure your chair properly supports your arms and back. It should also be adjustable in height so that your knees can be at the same height as your hips with your feet flat on the floor. Some companies offer expert ergonomic assessments. If your employer does, then take full advantage of it in order to feel better and increase your productivity.

Arrange It Right

The way you arrange items on your desk can have a big impact on how you feel throughout the day too. Put the things you use most often within arms reach so you don't have to strain in order to get them. Try not to text at your desk, either, since this can lead to unnecessary leaning that can quite literally become a pain in your neck.
