Balance to Well-Being: Lifestyle & Nutritional Change
By Stephen R. Farris
You might think a visit to your chiropractor is just for getting an adjustment to your spine or joints, but believe it or not, there's more. Did you know that your chiropractor may also offer nutritional tips in conjunction with your adjustments? That's right, it's all part of making sure you have additional information to help guide and put you on track for healthier living and overall well-being.
According to a report by the American Chiropractic Association (ACA), the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners' (NBCE) Practice Analysis of Chiropractic 2015 showed that 97 percent of doctors of chiropractic gave nutritional advice to their patients as part of their treatment plan. Another area your chiropractor might suggest with your treatments is a change in lifestyle, such as exercising more, cutting out tobacco products, drinking less alcohol, and getting more rest.
Some of those lifestyle and nutritional tips may include:
Daily mindfulness - This could include meditating, yoga, tai chi, or your favorite hobby; anything related that will help relax your mind on a daily basis
Eating out less - Stay home, try cooking different nutritional recipes; often, restaurant foods have higher sodium, sugar and fat content that are not always healthy
Eating more organic and raw foods - Organic foods are shown to contain less toxins; raw foods (fresh and frozen) have more natural vitamins and minerals which are not only good for you, but help in sustaining a more healthy diet
Stay hydrated - Drink plenty of water or other drinks that contain no sugar or added chemicals
Getting more sleep - Our fast-paced society makes it difficult to get the proper rest we need; in order to make sure we function adequately, doctors suggest we should all get at least six to eight hours of sleep each night
Balance is the Key to Nearly Everything in Life
Balancing your lifestyle and nutritional needs will help you go far in achieving better well-being and health. Your local chiropractor can give you exercise ideas to try that will coincide with your treatment plan, as well as provide some simple nutritional guidelines to follow at home and incorporate with your everyday meal planning. Your chiropractor can also answer any questions or concerns you may have about making changes in your lifestyle and nutrition, so don't be afraid to ask them.
