Maintain Your Energy Levels by Eating Healthy Foods
By Stephen R. Farris
When it comes to healthy eating, the basic combination is lean cuts of meat, green leafy vegetables, and fresh fruits. While that is a great combination, did you know that there are other healthy foods available to help keep your energy levels up each day.
These foods are important in order for us to stay productive at work, school, or play, so we don't get sluggish before the end of our shift, or the last bell of the day. If you get that run down feeling during the morning or afternoon, you might try adding some of these foods to your daily diet.
Dark Chocolate
Dark chocolate has several health benefits, including helping to boost your energy levels. Dark chocolate is packed with antioxidants that can help increase the blood flow in your body. When this happens, it boosts the oxygen going to your muscles and your brain, therefore giving your energy levels a lift.
Quinoa
If you're looking for a good substitute for white rice, then look no further than cooking up some quinoa. It's another energy boosting food that contains lots of protein, carbs, and fiber. Despite being high in carbs, it (quinoa) has a low glycemic index -- according to studies -- making the carbs slower for the body to absorb. This keeps your energy levels at a steady rhythm.
Oatmeal
When it comes to an energy boosting food that will last longer than those energy drinks, oatmeal is a surefire way to go. It's another one of those foods that only takes a few minutes to cook, and can be eaten in the morning to start your day, or as a snack while on break at work or school. Oatmeal is high in vitamins and minerals, aiding in energy production.
Yogurt
Yogurt is rich in protein and carbs -- which are in the form of simple sugars. These simple sugars get broken down and help give you -- in a way -- instant energy. Yogurt is another healthy food that you can keep stored in the fridge, and grab one in the morning to eat before heading off to work or school, or even before working out.
The bottom line is to continue with a healthy eating lifestyle, and at the same time, keep your energy levels boosted in order to function steady throughout your day.
