Healthy Habits That Are Family Friendly

It's a new year, which means it's time to think about your healthy habits -- and the habits of your family. It may be a challenge to maintain healthy habits all year long, but there are goals that are worthy of working toward as a team. Engage your family this year and work together on healthier habits that can have a real impact on your lives.
Drink More Water
Perhaps one of the easiest things you can do this year as a family is resolving to drink more water. After all, water is essential in the proper functioning of the body. Everyone in your family should drink about half their weight in ounces of water each day. Try buying everyone a reusable water bottle they get to pick out themselves for fun and figure out many full bottles they should aim to drink each day. Make a contest out of it and offer prizes for small kids to earn when they reach their daily goal.
If your kids aren't big fans of plain water, think about jazzing it up with some fruit.
You can spend time together as a family and be more active together in one fell swoop! Do something together as a family that encourages healthy habits. Go for a walk after dinner or take the whole family skating. Even some video games allow you to get up and move together, so try one of those and let your competitive streak shine. As long as you're doing something healthy together as a family, you're golden.
You've heard this before, but that's because it's so important. Take the time to plan and eat meals together as a family and you'll be healthier both mentally and physically. Get together at the beginning of each week and plan meals together. This will help your children to be invested in the process and learn about how to plan healthy meals, so it's a win-win! Make sure you include lean protein, whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, and dairy in your plans. You can even do a little prep ahead of time to ensure that dinner is ready to go on even the most hectic nights.
Staying healthy is a family affair. Make healthy living a group effort and you can accomplish so much together, instilling healthy habits in your children along the way!
