How You Can Stay Motivated About Working Out

By Sara Butler

It's not unusual to hit a wall when it comes to your workout motivation. You are human, after all, and humans get tired, distracted, and busy. Just as with most other things in life, workout burnout is a real thing. But you can overcome it and learn to love your workouts, or at least tolerate them enough to get them done! Here are a few tips to help you stay motivated and keep your workout, well, working.

Mix It Up

If you're hitting a 6 a.m. boot camp every single day before work, it's no wonder that you're feeling less than motivated to keep it up. While you may be seeing results, there's only so long you can stick to the same workout without becoming bored. You must give your body a break or you could end up in a position worse than being sick of your workouts, you could end up injured.

The best thing you can do is mix up your workout, sneaking in less intense workout sessions between the killer ones. Try adding rest days that involve yoga or walking. Basically, any activity that keeps you from pushing yourself every single workout but still gets your body moving for your health. This is called cross-training and it's definitely something that can help you stay healthy and out of a rut.

Opt for a Change of Scenery

Dragging yourself to the gym every day is a little boring, so mix things up by changing the scenery a bit. You can play a game of disc golf, swim, go for a hike -- just do something that helps you to get out and explore the world around you a little more to help keep you from getting bored.

Sleep More

You may be surprised to find out that many fitness experts say that sleep is the most important aspect of your health and wellness behind nutrition. Three is, of course, exercise.

If you find yourself feeling as if you simply can't drag yourself out of bed before the sun comes up for your workout, then don't. Instead, make sure you're getting the recommended amount of sleep. When you're well rested you'll have a more effective workout and you're overall health will get a boost too.

Staying motivated to work out is important, so do what you can to make it easier!
