Small Changes, Big Benefits to Your Health
By Sara Butler
Trying to overhaul your lifestyle to be healthier as you work to change habits can feel like a daunting task. But here's something you need to know: You don't have to do a complete overhaul in order to improve your health and wellness. In fact, a few small changes may be all you need to feel less stressed, get better sleep, and just feel better all around. Here are a few tips to help you get started.
Go for Protein
No matter your age, your body needs an adequate amount of protein each day to be healthy. The amount you need varies person to person based on weight and age, but if you think you're not getting enough, then you must take action.
Try to think about the foods you're eating that can be swapped out for more nutritious, protein-packed foods. So, instead of reaching for that pastry in the morning, why not try an egg on whole grain toast? Or perhaps swap out your morning cereal for a protein-packed breakfast smoothie. At meals, make sure you have a good source of protein such a chicken, fish, or tofu.
Do Some Self Care
Self-care is about more than going on a wellness retreat or indulging in a skincare routine that leaves your skin glowing, it's also about the small things you can do to help keep healthy boundaries with yourself.
Yes, that's right -- you need boundaries with yourself. Try talking kindly to yourself and be patient as you work toward your larger health and wellness goals. You can do it!
Get Moving
It's unrealistic to think you're going to go to the gym every single day, but you should endeavor to keep your body moving as much as you can. When you're at work, do a few small things that help you move more. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, take a walk at lunch to enjoy some sunshine, or take small, frequent breaks to stretch. These small things can help to fill in the gaps when you're trying to meet your fitness goals.
Go Outside
Spring and summer are the ideal times to go outside and get your body moving. It will help to boost your mood and help you stay on top of your daily fitness. In fact, being active outside helps you enjoy the exercise you're doing more.
You can make small changes that will pay off big when it comes to your health and wellness.
