Give Stress the Boot With These Tips
By Virginia Laird
Stress can prove to be tricky when trying to avoid it or reduce it. While there is no way to completely avoid stress, experts offer plenty of tips to try to help reduce it. When it comes to giving it the boot, a few things you can try include:
- Get outside
- Go to bed when you are tired
- Choose healthy eating habits
Get Outside
Getting outside is a great way to reduce your stress. Research indicates that spending time outdoors can help take your mind off of your worries. Exposing yourself to fresh air, nature, and a slower pace without devices can be a great way to reduce your stress. Now is the time to take advantage of your back porch. Find time each day after work to sit outside, enjoy your favorite adult beverage, and take in the sounds that nature has to offer. This can help you get rid of your stress after a long day of work.
Go to Bed When You Are Tired
One mistake that many make is to try to do too much in a 24-hour period. Rather than going to bed when exhausted, many try to extend the day to finish work, accomplish a few more chores around the house, or binge watch a favorite television show. While each of these things can prove to be productive, it can also get in the way of your sleep. Choosing to decrease the amount of sleep you get can increase the probability of you feeling completely stressed. Health and wellness experts say that those who choose to pull long hours rather than going to bed will experience more stress and possibly illness. It is recommended that the average adult get at least six hours of sleep each night. For this to take place, you need to go to bed when you are tired. For many, this may mean setting a bedtime and sticking to it. Whatever it takes for you to get plenty of sleep, now is the time to begin this habit.
Choose Healthy Eating Habits
Choosing to follow healthy eating habits is not always exciting. However, it can help reduce your stress. While there are many who stress about work and household chores, your health is another reason for a great deal of stress. Research suggests that those who choose to follow healthy eating habits can reduce their health-related stress significantly. When following a healthy diet you are likely consuming plenty of fruits and vegetables. It is also suggested that you reduce your sugar and soda consumption. Another habit that is healthy is to consume plenty of water. It is recommended that you consume at least half of your body weight in water each day. This can help the body continue to function properly, flush out toxins, and keep you properly hydrated. Start today making healthy eating habits part of your routine.
