Our own personal color monitors can seem a little bleak at times. Projects loom, kids' issues come up, and work waits at home and on the job. If this sounds all too familiar, think about what would make a difference.

Often people think of material things that might change everything. But if you look closer, that’s an endless quest. As soon as you get used to having a new car, a new house sounds great. There is always something new to wish for.

Amazon lists over 140,000 titles under the category “happiness!”  That might indicate we are all still looking for the magic formula.

Recently mindbodygreen.com suggested four simple steps that just might help.

Look at What You Have, Not at What Is Missing

Think of your family, friends, and skills. Think of what you do every day. If you look around, you might smile a little. Loyal friends, a loving family, pets, and hobbies may all be waiting for you. You may actually have a pretty nice situation that you have created. You may want to tweak it a little, but I’ll bet you don’t want to give it up.

Skip Comparisons - Focus On You

It’s good to know what others are doing, but you are setting yourself up for a fall when you compete. The only person you really can compete with is yourself. We learn by doing, and the more we try the better chance we have of improving. Also, the more we try the deeper we go into our projects to practice and learn more.

Turn Red Lights into Green

Sometimes the world looks different if we look twice. The first time you may see a roadblock. The next time, if you look carefully, you may see chances to move ahead. Instead of just accepting a negative situation, you might dig a little deeper and see what can be done to make it work. The people that I know who have been the most successful, all went through a lot of challenges before they made it.

Stay Focused on Real Issues

In a hectic world, it’s easy to be sidetracked with minor issues. When things don’t work, step back and access what is real. Consider your surroundings, and acknowledge your skills, and willingness to work. Showing up and doing your best still counts. Keep going and keep believing in yourself.
