What You Need for a Successful Workout Plan
By Genevieve Cunningham
We all need a good workout plan. Whether you're already in good shape or you're just starting your journey, exercise is a key component to better health. If you're just starting out in the world of fitness, creating a good workout plan can feel intimidating. Luckily, it doesn't have to be complicated. If you're ready to create a workout plan that works toward better health in your life, take a look at what you need to find ultimate success.
Some Kind of Cardio
Most people either love or hate cardio. There's very little in-between. But no matter where you fall on the love-hate spectrum, there's no denying that cardio is good for you. Why? Because it helps increase lung capacity and improves stamina. With regular cardio, we can work out (or work or play or do anything!) without getting out of breath or tiring so quickly. And cardio is also an excellent calorie (and fat!) burner. Find a cardio activity you can enjoy -- running, walking, aerobics, etc. -- and keep it in your regular routine.
Resistance or Weights
Cardio is important, but it's not the king of exercise. A lot of people skip weights in their exercise routine, but lifting is actually really beneficial. The stronger muscles we create, the more calories we can burn and the more balanced our body is as a whole. Just make sure you focus on form, as lifting with poor form can bring about injury. And if you don't have access to weights, resistance bands are an affordable and easy alternative that will help bring the same results.
Active Rest
Rest is a crucial part of any workout plan. Without rest, the body doesn't have time to recuperate or grow. But it's OK to actively rest. What does this mean? It means you can still do things like gentle walking or yoga on your rest days. Do something that feels good to your body and mind, but stay moving! Active rest is the best of both worlds -- your body rests and stays active all at the same time.
A workout plan is an important part of staying healthy for the long run. Without a plan. It's easy to get lost in the shuffle and give up. Use these tips to create a workout plan that really works, and you'll find success in your health in no time at all.
