Morning Tips That Make Energy Last All Day
By Genevieve Cunningham
You wake up in the morning, and you're already tired. You drink your coffee, have a shower, and get dressed for the day. At this point in the morning, you would expect to feel a bit more energized and ready for the day. But if you're like a lot of people, you really don't feel anything but ready to crawl back in bed. Fatigue is entirely too common. As adults, we come to accept this as a part of life -- but do we have to? Or can we have a little of that youthful energy back? If you would like to wake up with more energy for your day, take a look at these habits that make a big impact on your energy all day long.
Avoid Technology
It's tempting to wake up and immediately reach for a device. Whether it's a phone or tablet, we like to see what's going on in the world. See what we've missed while we've been sleeping. But when we do this, we don't give ourselves any time to wake up and get our brains moving. We shove our emotions into the world when we haven't even been awake for a solid five minutes. No wonder we're exhausted! If you want to avoid this mind and energy zapping problem, skip the device and give yourself some time to wake up before technology takes over your day.
Don't Touch the Snooze Button
When the alarm goes off, we all like to reach straight for the snooze button. It gives us more time to sleep, and since most people aren't ready to get up at the first alarm, it just makes sense to delay it as much as possible. But hitting the snooze button may actually be making you more tired. When the alarm goes off, it jolts us awake. When we hit the snooze, we allow ourselves to fall back into a light sleep, and so when the alarm goes off again, we're extra sleepy. The solution? When the alarm goes off, get up and get moving.
Eat Well
Our food is our energy. If we don't eat, we won't have energy. But this is also true if we eat the wrong foods. Junk food -- soda, sugary treats, chips, etc. -- doesn't provide your body with any substantial energy. Even if you get a quick energy boost, it's likely to fade very quickly. Instead of keeping your cabinets stocked with this kind of junk, fill it with foods that are good for the body. And make sure that your first meal of the day is one of your healthiest. Fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and plenty of protein -- these are a great start to a healthy, energizing diet.
The mornings can be especially tough, especially if we're already lacking energy in our daily lives. But we can make changes that really improve our focus, energy, and quality of life! Use these tips for more energy every morning -- and for energy that lasts all day long.
