Ease Your Neck Pain With These Chiropractic Tips

By Brandi Goodman

Neck pain is becoming increasingly common in today's world. With so many people constantly looking down at their phones and devices, it's no wonder why this chronic ailment is plaguing people on a large scale. With some chiropractic tips in mind, you can work to ease the tension in your neck and shoulders and keep facing forward.

Alter Your Sleeping Habits

The way you sleep also plays a role in your spinal health and neck tension. Sleep on an old, sunken mattress, use a flat pillow, or lay on your stomach with your head to the side, and you're likely to wake up with a serious ache. Alter your sleeping habits to make sure you're waking well-rested and in little to no pain.

This may mean getting a new mattress that supports your spine better. You could choose a chiropractic pillow that cradles the neck well. Start sleeping on your side instead with a body pillow behind you to help keep you in place. There's always a way to get better sleeping results.

Enhance Your Posture

A lack of posture can quickly lead to tension in the neck and shoulders. You need to enhance your posture if you have any hope of maintaining the joints in this area. Sit and stand up straight without slouching or looking down. Keep your head forward and avoid looking down at your phone - especially for longer than a few minutes at a time.

Eliminate Your Stress

It may be easier said than done, but stress needs to get eliminated from your life if you're going to avoid tension in your neck. This is a common area for tension to be felt when you're stressed out and overwhelmed. If you start to notice a nagging pain between your shoulder blades or higher up into your head, it's wise to work to reduce those stressors so you don't feel these aches anymore.

Try Neck Stretches and Shoulder Exercises

Sometimes, stretching or exercising are enough to eliminate the pain you're feeling in a particular area. If you're prone to neck pain, make sure you're learning the proper neck stretches and shoulder exercises to help. Strengthening this area of the body can significantly reduce the amount of pain felt here in the future.

If you're still feeling discomfort in your neck, it may be wise to let the chiropractor help. An adjustment could correct any subluxations that are in place so you have better range of motion and less pain to deal with going forward. Visit The Joint during open hours for relief.
