3 Things Successful People Do (And You Don't)

By Genevieve Cunningham

There is absolutely no denying that the quality of your life is impacted by your own perception of success. If you feel poorly about your own personal successes, you’re also likely to feel poorly about other areas of your life. Your mental and physical health will likely suffer, and you won’t feel your best in most situations. So, how can you feel better about your own success? The good news is that you don’t have to be a millionaire to feel successful. You just have to develop a few good habits that allow you to thrive in life. For a place to start, check out these three habits of highly successful people that you’re probably not doing but should start today.

They Get Comfortable With Being Uncomfortable

Anything that is worth doing probably has a steep learning curve. There are very few situations in life that won’t have you feeling quite uncomfortable in the beginning. But in order to grow, you have to keep going despite being uncomfortable. Successful people already know this, and they get comfortable with being a bit uncomfortable. To do this, just start slowly. Try an activity that has always intimidated you a bit (maybe dance lessons or zumba or toastmasters). Then give it some time and do it again. Since life is likely to be uncomfortable from time to time, this skill will come in handy for the rest of your life.

They Ask for Help

OK, we all ask for help sometimes, but is it enough? Do you ask for help when it counts? If you’re trying to tackle a task or accomplish something, and you don’t know how … do you ask someone who has done it before? Successful people aren’t afraid to ask for advice. They seek the knowledge of those who know more, and they’re not afraid to admit when they don’t know something. This is a difficult task to accomplish since our pride often gets in the way, but it’s a skill worth mastering in order to be successful in life.

They Stop Procrastinating

This is so, so difficult. We all procrastinate, and if you don’t, you are among the very few! Procrastination is part of our human nature in many instances, so it’s a tough habit to break. But it can make all the difference in ultimate success. When you get a task, start it now! Or at least at the first available opportunity. You may find that you not only have more time on your hands, but that you also have more focus and motivation. Kicking the procrastination habit is one of the best things that you can do for yourself, your health, your life, and any success that you make.

Everyone has the desire to be successful. It’s normal and natural and even good for us to want to achieve more! Even though it can seem difficult, getting on top of these habits can make a big difference. Get control of your habits, gain control of yourself, and reap in the benefits that come with it.
