Caffeine. It’s a hot topic among many. Some claim it’s a product worth avoiding, and others simply can’t live without it. The confusion has been going on for years, and honestly, we're no closer to an answer than before. Most people know that it's not the best for our health. But is it really that bad? While it’s probably not the worst thing in the world for our bodies, it actually can bring with it some negative side effects. Before continuing a heavy caffeine load in your life, take a look at these side effects that might be worth avoiding.
Caffeine Can Cause Headaches
Some people seem to have a sensitivity to too much caffeine. The unfortunate part is that you probably won’t know about the sensitivity until you’ve already consumed it. When a sensitivity is present, side effects such as headaches can occur. And unless you realize that caffeine is the culprit, you may continuously ingest the product causing the discomfort. The solution? If caffeine is causing your headaches, simply ending all consumption may get rid of them for good.
Caffeine Can Lead to Insomnia
This probably isn’t that surprising. Too much caffeine can lead to a bout of insomnia. Because it’s a stimulant, consuming too much means falling and staying asleep becomes incredibly difficult. While this doesn’t happen to everyone, and it doesn’t happen every time caffeine is consumed, it’s easy to overlook it as a source of insomnia. If you suspect that caffeine is keeping you from getting the sleep you need, cutting back is crucial.
Caffeine Can Lead to Addiction
Even though it’s not as serious as many drugs, caffeine is an addictive substance. Your body and mind begin to rely on the pick-me-up to get through the day. Once you become addicted, not getting enough can even lead to withdrawal symptoms such as headaches, digestive issues, and the inability to concentrate. If you’d rather steer clear of anything addictive, it’s best to avoid caffeine.
The debate about caffeine has been on for years. For the most part, we can all agree that caffeine, in the grand scheme of things, probably isn’t that bad. But there may be a few negative side effects to consuming the product. If you don’t want these to be a part of your life, learn to limit or cease your consumption and find another stimulating product instead.
