When Eating Right Doesn't Make a Difference
By Donna Kostiew
You’ve done the reading … the research, if you will. You have spent countless hours sorting through recipes and preparing weekly menus with ingredients even your mom has never heard of. You shop at the natural grocery stores and choose organic whenever you can. You avoid the pre-packaged, neon colored items that line the shelves by doing the majority of your shopping around the perimeter of the supermarket. Your child may hate you for the moment, but every food blogger you have read is certainly clapping for you in their tiny little corner of the world. In theory, you’ve got this whole idea of healthy eating down pat.
So how upset would you be if you were told that all of the good you were doing might not be doing any good at all?
Chiropractic Care and Your Digestive System
Chiropractic adjustments help to maintain a healthy nervous system. By placing the body in the proper position, this non-invasive approach reduces stress placed on the nerves in the spine and allows them to work freely and optimally. The nervous system controls every cell and organ in your body, so it is easy to see how chiropractic isn’t just for pain relief, but also for a functional digestive system as well.
How do Chiropractic Adjustments Help?
The body’s nervous system influences every single part of the body, and digestion is no exception. When a joint restriction in the spine is causing the nervous system to become unbalanced and disrupted, chances are that no matter how healthy and nutritious your meal is, the nutrients that your body is receiving won’t be properly or optimally utilized. The communication lines between your brain and digestive system may be blocked, so in turn, your body may not understand what to do with the nutrition it is receiving. Make no mistake, eating healthy is important, but you want to take full advantage of it.
Wait, There’s More …
When there is a joint restriction in your spine, your irritated nerves will also send out erratic impulses to your digestive system (stomach and intestines) which often causes problems such as heartburn, bloating, and gas. Remember that trip you just took to the pharmacy to buy some antacid and heartburn medications? Well, it may very well be your last! Sure, those medications often help out in a pinch, but they really only give you temporary relief … temporary ... and you deserve better than that. Chiropractic treatments provide a natural, effective way to restore digestive health and prevent them from recurring as often as they have been.
So, if you are the person who still isn’t feeling as good as you thought you would, even after taking a healthier stance on nutrition (and following all of the recommendations of the most famous nutritional bloggers out there), then I would encourage you to see your local chiropractor for help.
