When Pain Interferes Chiropractic Comes to the Rescue
By Sandy Schroeder
Sometimes life pushes and pulls us, creating an irritating start and stop response. There are a million things to do, but the body just wants to pause. A sore shoulder, stiff neck, painful knees, or aching back may hold everything up.
Often, we manage to keep life going with pain pills, ice packs or hot showers, but chiropractic has a better answer. The Joint Chiropractic's doctors of chiropractic help people of all ages pursue pain relief and lasting wellness.
The Spinal Connection
Your chiropractor sees people with many different issues. Pain in the back, neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees or ankles can be caused by joint restrictions that may respond well to chiropractic adjustments.
A gentle, targeted adjustment to correct restrictions may get you moving again. The spine and the central nervous system inside command almost everything the body does. When that brain-to-body communication is running well, life often works a lot better.
As you evaluate your results, you may want to use weekly 15-minute adjustments to stay at your peak.
Your chiropractor will monitor your overall progress, providing preventive measures and safety tips to keep you on track. There may also be suggestions to improve posture, upgrade your workplace, cut back on work hours, or lower your stress levels. Staying active will be important, too. Harvard Health and Consumer Reports offers these tips:
Let Water Do the Work
- Water carries your weight, lowering stress on the body
- Try out exercises in the pool before you do them in the park
- Warm water relaxes the body and eases the joints
- With a minimum of effort, gradually improve your range of motion
Walk Every Day
Find ways to walk before work, during breaks, at lunch, and mid-afternoon. In the evening walk the dog, or walk with your kids. Gradually build up to 10,000 steps with 30 minutes of activity.
Stretch Gently Daily
Do 10 minutes a day of gentle stretches with your doctor and your chiropractor’s approval. Stretch in the morning, at work, and before bedtime.
Office back stretch - Sit with feet flat on the floor. Bend forward from the hips, relaxing neck and sliding finger down the legs. Hold 30 seconds. Straighten up. Repeat three times.
