Can a Healthy Workplace Exist? Yes it Can!

By Donna Kostiew

Work can be such a distraction to enjoying life as we would like, can’t it? And at this time of the year, it seems like we are on work overload, knowing that there is so much to get done and trying to get it all accomplished before we head on out for holiday vacations. Not only can work be stressful at this time of the year, but it can also wreak havoc on the body.

Staying Healthy at Work

It can be hard to keep your health a priority when your mind is consumed with tasks, so here are some tips that you can take into consideration as you sit in traffic during your morning commute.

Clean your workspace – Germs, germs, and more germs are guaranteed to be sitting on your mouse, keyboard, and desktop right now. Think about it; everything you’ve touched during the day is prone to germs which have been left behind by you and all of your coworkers, so grab a disinfecting wipe and wipe everything down on a regular basis to reduce your risk of getting sick.

Drink lots of water – To keep a cold from turning your life upside down, wash your hands frequently, eat a healthy diet, and drink plenty of water. Water not only helps to flush out toxins, but it also helps the body to produce mucus and is critical with preventing dehydration.

Boost your immune system - Germs are everywhere … and they are ready to attack and wage an all-out war against your immune system so be prepared! Keep yourself healthy with a nutritious diet, plenty of water, lots of Vitamin C, and regular visits to your local chiropractor. It has been shown that regular chiropractic adjustments give your immune system just the right amount of boost it needs to keep your body well.

Pack your lunch - What could be worse than eating a greasy burger and some dried out fries you picked up at the local fast food joint, and then going back to work feeling bloated and uncomfortable for the rest of the day? Fried foods are loaded with fat, calories, and salt and do nothing to help ward off illness. Avoid this type of food by packing your own nutritious lunch or by making better choices when eating out.

Remember your posture - Sit straight, don’t slouch, create an ergonomically correct workspace … you’ve heard this all before. When your posture is out of whack, then more than likely so are your body’s stress levels, which can lead to headaches, fatigue, neck and back pain, and a host of other issues. By correcting your posture, the body’s nervous system, organ functions, and even breathing are improved.

Small actions can sometimes have the biggest impact and that couldn’t be truer for the recommendations listed above. Keep your health in the workplace a priority so that by the time your vacation rolls around, you are feeling great!
